Greetings!
We are excited to celebrate our 4th year now since reviving the Oregon Suzuki Association. If you haven't renewed your membership there is still time to do so. Please use the membership form to update your information. Dear Oregon Suzuki teachers,
Looking back on the past two years of this young association, much has been accomplished! Besides general logistics such as our website, teacher email list, bank account, and many other ‘behind the scenes’ accomplishments, the Oregon Suzuki teacher community continues to get ‘smaller’ as we all meet each other and make new friendships. This is beneficial to our studios as we share ideas that are helpful to all!
As we wrap up this school year we are ending with a student play-in event to help build community among our studios. You should have received information in the mail about this event, but all forms and information is also available under the Events page of this website. We want to thank Tayva Turner for coordinating the student play-in! She is doing a fabulous job and we hope that you support her and the OSA by volunteering at the event. Please also make sure to thank her for her hard work!
If you are interested in taking Suzuki violin teacher training with Martha Shackford there will be a class started this September. Teacher trainees will get trained in violin books 1-10 and will be able to register their training with the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) upon completion of the course and its requirements. The training that Martha has been doing for the past two years has been offered through the Community Music Center, but please note the training is being moved to the Oregon Suzuki Talent Education Center (OSTEC) as of September 2007. Please contact Martha at marthashackford@comcast.net or OSTEC Director Tamara Theodosis at tamara@orsuzuki.com for more information about the training. Also, information about the teacher training class is available on the OSTEC website at: www.orsuzuki.com
Please make sure to watch your mail and email for notices to renew your OSA membership. Laurita Jauregui de Campero is in charge of registration and will send out renewal notices this spring.
The schedule of events for the 2007-2008 school year will soon be set. Please email Tamara or Laurita if you have ideas for events or would like to chair an event or host a teacher party.
Take care and we hope to see you all at the May 19th play-in!
Thank you!

August 2006
Dear Oregon Suzuki teachers,
The Oregon Suzuki Association (OSA) was revitalized one year ago after a 16 year hiatus and is off to a great start! In the past year, the OSA has:
- opened a bank account in its name making it possible to receive checks made out to the OSA
- sponsored a Red Cross fundraising Suzuki student group concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina
- provided a teacher talk and opportunities to observe SAA Violin Teacher Trainers Alice Joy Lewis and Teri Einfeldt
- provided opportunities for Oregon Suzuki teachers to meet and brainstorm ideas
- started up the suzukioregon email list to improve and streamline communication between teachers
Please remember this is your association, so please make sure to attend the annual meeting on September 16 to voice your thoughts and ideas. Please see the Current Events section on the OSA website for details. At our annual meeting we will brainstorm events for the 2006-2007 school year and decide who will chair each event.
There is more Suzuki teacher training in Oregon than ever! At the Community Music Center in southeast Portland Martha Shackford will start another two year long-term Suzuki violin teacher training course in books 1-10, and Charlene Wilson will begin a one year Suzuki cello teacher training course covering cello books 1-5. There are also two Every Child Can! courses happening this fall in the Portland area as well as Suzuki violin group class teacher training. For those of you who are interested in getting a graduate degree along with Suzuki violin pedagogy training, please contact Judy Weigert Bossuat at the University of Oregon. Please see the Current Events section on the OSA website for more details.
Please make sure to watch your mail and email for notices to renew your OSA membership. Laurita Jauregui de Campero is in charge of registration and will send out renewal notices this fall.
We are always trying to improve communication! Notices of events are sent out to all Oregon SAA members by mail. In addition to mailed notices, the OSA maintains a group email list, which is a free service of Yahoo! groups. This email list is an easy way to keep communication free and easy, and we use it to brainstorm ideas by email rather than have frequent meetings. If you’d like to join the email list please send an email to Tamara.
Our beautiful state is rather large and Oregon Suzuki teachers are spread out over a wide geographical area. This makes it difficult to plan events that all Oregon teachers and their students can attend. There has been interest in starting a southern Oregon chapter of the OSA. We need a couple of OSA teachers willing to work together to create this chapter. Please send an email to both Tamara and Laurita if you are interested.
Thank you!
